Visit from local librarian.
Carol, the librarian, came up to visit us, and shared with us what she likes to read now and when she was young. Then she read a story to us. We will be walking down to the local library this week to meet her again and get some books out for reading. We can get two each and they go on a class card. She does let us bring our own cards, but then parents have to take responsibility for those.
First Week.
On Thursday at the end of the week I tried some interactive writing with the class. One of the students acted as our writer and we gave him sentences, he wrote, and we summarised briefly how we had started this term’s topic, Colour Our World. It gave me the opportunity to discuss the sense and some of the punctuation, spelling etc. It was the first time I had tried this and I thought it very worthwhile.
This is what we wrote.
We began working about colour in our world. Firstly, we thought about what words came to mind when we heard the word colour.
- Then we read a book called, Wait! No Paint! Next we asked some questions about colour. We used these words to start our questions.
Who, Where, When, Why, Which, What, How. Finally we read a book called Get Red. All this work has begun our topic, Colour Our World.
Welcome to news about what is happening in MB4.
This year I hope to post here regularly, to keep our school community and others informed as to what is happening in my classroom. I hope to post my term class newsletters here, along with some of the things we are doing, especially the topic we study each term.
This term is one of exploration for me. Eventually I hope to add in the students, and enable them to publish some of there work.
