I’m Getting a New Room!

I’m getting a small room added to my house so that when I retire in a few years I can sit in the sun and read, read, read!  It is very exciting to come home every day and see the new steps each day.  Of course I won’t wait until I retire to use it!  There are holidays and weekends.  Now if we could just get a bit of sun.  I was in MB6 this morning and joined them for prayer.  They were all praying that the sun would show it’s face.

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

On 26/6/09, I went to see the second transformers movie.  I really liked the new transformers in this movie.  Autobots: –  the twins, (aka Mudflap and Skids-pictured), Sideswipe and 2 decepticons that want to be autobots.  One has a  Blackbird plane and is named  Jetfire.  The other is a remote control sized monster truck.  I’m not sure what it is.  (If you know, could you tell me).  Decepticons: - Devastator, Ravage, The Fallen, Mixmaster.  That’s all I can name, but I’m pretty sure there are more.  The movie is 2 and a half hours long, but it didn’t seem that long for me.  I really think that what The fallen does is kinda strange.  I mean trying to destroy earths sun….weird!  But it makes for good entertainment. If you have any thing to ask about the movie, put it in the comments, because if I told you everything about the movie,  then it would take me a month to write!! See you.  Antonio.

One Day of No T.V. Each Week

I think that having one day of no t.v. each week is a good idea because you can always go outside, like  if you have a secret hide out that would be useful and fresh air.  There is also inside, like you could always make mini toy towns or if you are a boy you could make battle towns.  What do you think?

Magnificent moustaches!!!

If you are a boy have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a girl?

And if you are a girl have you ever wondered what it would be like a boy? Stella and I have.  Our friend Tessa won some fake moustaches in the cool choice draw.  We wore them walking round the play ground, it was quite embarrassing!!

Stella was a mexican man and I was the french man.  It REALLY hurt when we took them off!!!  It kept our lips warm in the cold but it was very itchy.  That was the time Stella and I became men.  Special thanks to Tessa R for donating the moustaches.  P.S we DID NOT USE THE BOYS TOILETS!!!!!!!

WOW Week 9

Kim has made her choice, so listen in and check out our amazing student this week.

Elephants

Elephants are the biggest land animal. They have very thick skin to keep cool. Their trunk may have more than 40,000 muscles inside it. Males can grow up to 5 – 14 feet at the shoulders. Their staple diet is grasses, leaves, bark and roots. They also have been known to eat farmers crops.

Elephants love water and will stay in it until the matriach leads them out. Elephants make 5 types of noises, the grunt, bellow, whistle, trumpet and purr. Elephants live up to 70 years old and spend up to 16 hours a day eating. Elephants live in tight social units and have the biggest brains in the animal kingdom. They can walk 4 miles per hour. Elephants have small eyes and have poor sight, but a great sense of smell. Elephants are very good swimmers and can swim for long distances. Because elephants are a very large animal they need to eat a lot. Elephants can eat up to 495 pounds of food a day, that’s a lot.

Male elephants leave the herd at the age of 12 to 15, in the rainy season they find a mate. To win a mate, male elephants need big srong ivory tusks and will need to keep a close eye on the female to avoid other males mating with her again. The matriach is an old cow or female that leads the herd, she is often the wisest and knows the area well. Elephants are very clever, so clever they can feel water vibrations through the ground and can find it, dig it up and drink it. Elephants were not always elephants though, elephants evolved from mammoths, which means they have been around for millions of years, and I hope they will be around for many more.

What I learned about decimals

I learned that it takes 10 tenths to make a whole and it takes 1000 thousandths to make a whole.  Also I learned that it is best to use equal additions to find the answer to something like 12.78-3.89.  For some it may seem hard but it’s actually quite easy.  You take the last number in the question.  In this case it’s 3.89, you add how much it takes to make 100,  so in this case it’s 0.11.  So 3.89+0.11=4. So you do the same with the other one.  12.78+0.11=12.89.  So 12.89-4 =8.89.  See it’s easy.  Hey Antonio here is a question for you.  What does 23.67-21.85 equal.

Telling the Time on an analogue clock!

time_0001  Watch the video of time from our 1st learning session.

We are learning to read an analogue clock, those in the class who have mastered this are helping others to learn to do this.  The slide show shows that we are not all on the same page yet!  Or is that on the same hand?  Students were given a time to show on their clock, and on the count of 1,2,3, show,  they turned the clocks around to show, and check if it matched the teacher’s clock.

WOW Week 8.

We are just ending week 8.  So who has Amelia decided is going to be our worker of the week, listen in.  I have been noticing her this week too, and I agree with Amelia.  She came up with a wonderful strategy for solving a maths problem when Mrs S was here during the week.

Decimals

Every Thursday after lunch, me, my friend Daniel and Miss T work on maths. These last 2 weeks, we’ve been working on decimals.  We’ve been doing worksheets on adding and subtracting decimals.  We have also been timing and dividing them as well.  Here is one we did:  7.4-3.89.  I’m also going to share a strategy with you.  In this one you would add 0.11 to each of them. therefore making it 7.51-4.  the answer is 3.51.  Here is one for Daniel and anyone else who wants to do it.  Leave the Answer in the comments section.  78.9-46.08= ?
