My Cousin’s Birthday

On Friday my family and I went to Napier for my cousin’s birthday at Splash Planet.  He also invited six of his other friends and his brothers and mum and dad of course.

When we finally got to Splash Planet we were going to go on the Formula one racing cars,  but the line was to long so we all went on the bumper boats and after that we needed to go and have some lunch .

We had hamburgers they were delicious when we were all done we all went on the water slides.  We went on the slide with the blow up rings, first I went on a single one  because there was an odd number of people.  The next time I went on it with my cousin one time we went so fast that we fell off the ring .

After we had been on all of the slides we went on the F1′s.  When we were on the F1′s  I got the really really slow one, four people past me .  When we got off the F1′s we went to the inside pool where we found the adults , we left there and went on the inside slide a few times.  Next we went on all of the slides lots of times.  Later we were going to go on the bumper boats but the line was too long so we went on the jungle jeeps.  When we got on to them lots of people were crashing into each other.

Before we got on the man filled up the gas tanks and he left the big gas oil drum on the grass, then someone got stuck and the man lifted up the front and a boy let go of the steering so the wheels turned, then when the man let go, he made it go as fast as it could go and the boy crashed right into the big drum with all the gas in it. He got kicked off the jungle jeeps.   When everyone else got off we went on the inside slide a few times.  After we went in the inside pool there are thin boards that are good frisbies and we were throwing them at a wall and they would stick to it and when it went over the top of the wall it hit a lifeguard and before we could run he came over and shouted out all of you!!!

We all started to laugh so loud and he shouted “Right Now, ” so  we all said  what ever.  Wewent out,  we had to go so we packed up and left .

Communicating With Australia.

This afternoon we skyped with a class in Australia.  Yr 5rc, they are just below us on the blogging challenge list.  Their teacher asked ours if we would be interested to skype with them and of course we were. It was our first skype class to class, thanks to Kim we had been skyping with her so it wasn’t too strange to us to move up a level and communicate with a whole class.

We answered questions for them and they answered ours.  After the skype session they were going to share in a cultural day and they had food from the various countries where their families have come from. I wonder where they all have come from. Maybe some people from Room Yr5rc would leave us a comment and answer that for us.

We left straight away for the excellence assembly. I thought we were going to miss it, but it all worked out really well.  Thanks Mrs M and Yr5rc class. We appreciate the link.

Excellence Assembly.

At 2:20 today we gathered for Excellence assembly. We have one a term.  The two students for our class have achieved really well.  I am going to start up an honours board in the classroom and their names will be the first to go up!

The Environment. Challenge 4.

We focused on the environment last week. Some students wrote posts on their blogs. We discussed some national issues that happened during last week. You can read the mining issue here, we were also distressed by TV news showing some visitors to our country showing themselves on Youtube shooting and killing some kereru (Native Pigeons). They have returned to their own northern Europe country, however police in their country are working with NZ police on this.

Some of the students shares about Earth Hour here  and a post here as well.  Also lots of great tips given  here.

We would appreciate hearing your thoughts on the protected birds shooting.

Pepeha

This term our class has been working with Ms G.  They have been learning to present orally their personal information which identifies their iwi, family origins and connections.  They have been learning to do this in Maori, the language of our Maori people.  So in the video you can listen to five of the students. Others will present their pepeha at another time.

Silver and Gold or Green????

The government is proposing that some land that has previously been protected be opened up to mining for gold and silver and other valuable minerals. One place they have named is Great Barrier Island They want to increase the wealth of New Zealand, so that we can become more wealthy and catch up a little with Australia.

People who care about the environment and want protection for flora and fauna are naturally not happy about this.  They believe it will destroy some of these places.

The government says the amount of land is equivalent to the size of a postage stamp on Eden Park. (A rugby field).

So what do you think?  Please leave your comment below giving your opinion on this issue.

Simone has been researching Canada.
