Ideas and Innovation.

We have just started a topic on the impact of inventions on people’s lives. In groups students listed all the inventions they could name that we have in our classroom. The ones that stand out the most, are the ones every or most groups thought of. The smaller ones were mentioned by only one or two groups.
So far we have found out that people for millions of years were nomadic. They spent their time hunting and gathering. It is only in the last ten thousand years that some big ideas changed the way people live. These big ideas and inventions were mostly a response to our six basic needs. What are those six basic needs?
When we were listing our basic needs, of course we came up with some other needs, like the need to learn and have fun activities to do. And a whole world of invention exists around them too.

Quite a list. I wonder what are considered the world’s greatest inventions?
The six basic needs got me thinking too.

Thanks for asking. In our part of New Zealand we were not touched by the earthquake. We were in class and actually didn’t even feel it. However our hearts are very sad at all the loss of life and home that the people in Christchurch are dealing with because of the quake.
