Year 7 Hats

At technology this term, the Year 7s made hats.  They looked so cool, we took a photo and put it in this post, that you’re reading right now!  I think they look pretty cool.  My favourite is the hat of the Angry Birds Bomb Bird.  But all of them were made to a high standard.

But because I wasn’t in the classroom, let’s hear from Daniel on his thoughts of hat making:  It was fun, but it took a while.  I guess he was speechless by the amount of fun he had.

So to recap, the students have fun, the hats are cool, and everyone is looking forward to technology next term.

So here is a picture with all the hats.  Zooming in should let you see the hats clearer.

Leadership day

On the 14 of June 10 students from all the catholic schools including ours, St Patrick’s all traveled to Te Papa for a Catholic young leaders conference. Which meant having over 200 students and teachers there, altogether.

We had to be there by 9:00 am, which meant catching the 7:39 train.  For some people waking up early is a breeze but for people like me, its not so easy! Eventually I managed to get up early(surprisingly)so I could get ready and be there on time.

Everyone got to Te papa at 9 and had 15 minutes before the welcoming from Mihi Whakatau, so we all just spoke among ourselves.  Once the welcoming was over(which was spoke in mostly Maori) was over it was time for the first Entertainment, it was a group of students from Bishop Viard College who preformed two Samoan dances to us all.

We had our very first speaker on who was Matty Mc Lean from TVNZ who mainly spoke about how he grew up and how he got his job working for TVNZ and our second speaker Alexander Mckay who spoke about how to never give up even if you have a condition of some sort, it doesn’t mean you can’t follow your dreams.  After these two speakers it was Morning Tea.

We all got back in from morning tea and it was time for our second entertainment, but this one had a catch to it, it was called the mystery performance, so none of us new what it was going to be about.  While all of us walked into the room we came to find Bongos on our seats!! We all sat back down and played with them, this purpose was that actions speak louder than words.

Our third speaker Father Gerry Burn was there to tell us about how if you want to be a leader, you don’t have to do EVERYTHING, but the little things count too.  Then we had out third entertainment of the day from St Catherine’s music group who sung us three songs. Then we got to eat lunch.

Our fourth speaker was from Jude Wattson and Andy Wotton who spoke about how they built a house for a family and how much of a difference that made to there life.  For a closing item which was by Billy Graham, who also had humor but a good point which was about giving everything s try.  We  then got a farwell from Daniel Faitaua from TVNZ(and a picture!)

This was a great day and I have learnt so much on this trip, but just to complete the day our principle shouted us all ice-cream.

Rippa Tournament

On Thursday, some of the Kapiti Schools participated in a Rippa Rugby Tournament, and I (Daniel S) was one of the lucky students to participate. There was many, many students from schools all over Kapiti, and our school (St. Pats) was one of the schools who participated. Our yr7/8 team won 1 game of 8 games, and here are the stats of how the Games went:

  1. Game 1. St.Pats V Waikanae B. Score : 6-10
  2. Game 2. St. Pats V Waikanae A. Score : 10-12
  3. Game 3. St. Pats V Raumati Beach B. Score: 9-11
  4. Game 4. St. Pats V Otaki. Score: 8-13
  5. Game 5. St. Pats V Paraparaumu. Score. 8-7 WIN
  6. Game 6. St. Pats V Kenakena. Score. 9-11
  7. Game 7. St.Pats V Paekakariki. Score. 6-9
  8. Game 8. St. Pats V Raumati Beach A. Score. 7-1?

And the final was: Raumati Beach A V Otaki. Score: 4-12. So for the second year in a row, Otaki won the Rippa Tournament, but it was a fun time going there to play Rippa Rugby, and although we only won 1 game, we didn’t come last.  The Junior Team (yr5/6) played at the Tournament as well, and they won no games, but they were close (3points close) to winning some.

  1. Game 1. St.Pats V Paraparaumu. Score: 5-12
  2. Game 2. St.Pats V Raumati Beach. Score: 4-10
  3. Game 3. St.Pats V Kenakena. Score: 1-10
  4. Game 4. St.Pats V Otaki B. Score. 0-14
  5. Game 5. St.Pats V Otaki A. Score. 1-13
  6. Game 6. St.Pats V Paekakariki. Score. 6-9
  7. Game 7. St.Pats V Waikanae. Score. 5-10.

So even if the juniors didn’t win, they were trying their hardest. My sister was in the juniors, and she kept telling what happened in her games.

Book character day!

Today we had Book character day when we all dressed up as our favourite character from a book.  I dressed as Frodo Baggins of the shire, (He’s from The Lord Of The Rings).  He looks like this:

Other people dressed as:  Smee, Frodo, Aslan, Spartucus, Percy Jackson, Richie McCaw, The Mad Hatter, Mouses, Catniss Everdeen, An Angel the list goes on!  I hope you enjoyed today as much as I have.

Your hard working student,

Jordan.

May the odds be ever in your favor.

The Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Gale Hawthorne,Haymitch Abernaty, Primrose Everdeen, and President Coriolanus Snow. These are the most important people in THE HUNGER GAMES!

The Hunger Games is an extremely awesome book series by one of the most inspiring writers of our time Suzanne Collins.

The trilogy is mainly about a 16 year old girl who’s sister gets called to be a tribute in  THE HUNGER GAMES. A game the capital made to make everyone in the district’s remember who is in charge.

When Primroses (12) name gets called Katniss vallenters for her sister and goes into the area with Peeta and their tragic love storie starts along with a lot of complications.

During their time in the area Katniss nearly gets killed, she forms a alliance with a girl called Rue, and saves Peeta’s life, and I’m really bad at explaining this. But these books are : Adventure, Quest, Dystopian, Love, and lots more series.

If you want to know more READ THE BOOKS. And as Effie Triket would say, Happy Hunger Games, and May the odds be ever in your favour.
