An Event To Look Forward To

'Mt Ruapehu Ski Fields' photo (c) 2005, Ian Armstrong - license: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/The year sevens and eights will be on the mountain next Wednesday, Mt Ruapehu to be exact. We are going for a ski trip, well, I’ll be snowboarding, because I’ve skied since I was three. We’re going up on the side of the mountain called Whakapapa, which is the side of the mountain that I know like the back of my hand, and I think it’s more exciting than Turoa, the other side.

I’m pretty sure we’ll all be looking forward to the four hour drive. Not. At least some of us, like me, don’t have someone in the middle seat. We’ll be stopping in three towns on the way; Taihape, Tangiwai, and Turoa.

We’ll be staying in the National Park, which is apparently near the mountain. Well, I wouldn’t know, but it must be if we’re staying there. The trip is three days long. The first day we are driving up there, and stopping in Turoa for a play in the snow. On the middle day, we’re driving to Whakapapa to ski and snowboard. And finally we are leaving at 10:00 (am) and stopping at the (a very important sounding name is coming) National Army Museum of Waiouru, New Zealand. I looked it up. That’s the whole name. They could’ve gone with: er… Army Museum? Anyway, all the times of the past that I’ve driven to the mountain, (the last time I drove to Mt Ruapehu was last week) I’ve seen all the real old cannons and trucks. It looks like a very exciting museum!

I’ve never been skiing with all my friends before, though, and I really can’t wait. Major snowball fights, snowman building, and hanging out with them the whole time! (Even watching them try to master the art of skiing!)
