Waikanae Pool Picnic of 2013
On Friday the 15th, our whole school had a picnic at the Waikanae Pools! From what I observed, we all had a great time! There was a lot of swimming, splashing, flipping of huge inflatable millipedes, and speeding down the hydro-slide!
There’s also the food… Sausage sizzles (straight from the barbecue), lollies, chips, ice-blocks, drinks, and of course the nice (mostly) reliable lunchbox. I think lots of people have had the experience of leaving their poor food behind.
I’m pretty sure that you’d all want to see some photos from this day. So I took some! Kids posed for the camera:

But after that awesome photo was taken we found out that we’re not allowed to stand on those huge floats…
And sometimes, well, not everybody can get a good photo… Mostly because lots of kids dislike keeping their mouths shut! (Or they had water in one eye!)
Maybe we’ll get a better photo next time!
It was pretty fun! I’m sure that everyone from year 7 and down can’t wait until we do this again, (and year 8′s as well, if the next picnic is this year.)
Oh, and here’s the giant millipede! Well, I’m pretty sure that’s what it is…

Monique
Thank you for writing this post and snapping the photos, I thought they summed up the day very well.
We were fortunate to have such great weather, and it looks like more of the same this week…….but no Waikanae pool!
What was your favourite part of the day? My least favourite part of the day was that I lost Dana’s necklace of a tiny dolphin.

My favourite part of the day…
That would probably be when I was in the pool with Simone, pulling her around in the ring, (which we both learnt was rather difficult to get into without capsizing.)
But mainly I don’t really have a favourite part of the day, it was all so great!
I’m going to reverse the hard-to-answer question back to you. What was your favourite bit of that day? You never told me!

Hi Monique!
I thought you wrote a really great recount of the day, it’s a shame you didn’t stay in the whole time! You would be shocked at how many times I got water in my eye (thanks Daniel) and it was getting REALLY annoying. Anyway, what was your highlight of the day? Mine was getting back Daniel by splashing him in the face (aha!).
Anyway, Bye from your friend Clemie

Dear Miss T’s Class,
Your trip looked very fun. We where suppose to go on a field trip last week , but a big snow storm hit our area , so we had no school , monday or tuesday.
I really like the theme of your blog. The colors make it really stand out and that is what makes it creative.
I have a new blog.
It’s called Ari’s Safari.

So how many legs exactly does a millipede have?
February 21st, 2013 at 9:39 am
Dad, I researched how many legs a millipede has. They can have between 80 or 400… though there’s a certain species that has 750!
So… the pools’ millipede had 742 missing legs. That’s a lot. Maybe it’s not actually a millipede…

It must be expensive when they buy shoes. And hard for the shoe-shop not knowing if it is anywhere between 80 and 400 per customer. And imagine all those shoelaces to tie!
