How to make an origami bird. Competition!

Here is a video done by Harry on making a paper bird. It shows you everything you need to know on origami bird making. There is a reward for the first person in the class to use the video to make your own. But you can’t either know how to make it already or be related to the people who had anything to do with it. Good Luck!

Pepeha

This term our class has been working with Ms G.  They have been learning to present orally their personal information which identifies their iwi, family origins and connections.  They have been learning to do this in Maori, the language of our Maori people.  So in the video you can listen to five of the students. Others will present their pepeha at another time.

Its a Small World Challenge.

Challenge 3

Somes Island is in the middle of Wellington Harbour. It’s a scientific reserve free of predators of  the birds and creatures living on the island. In the first world war it was home of prisoners of war (P.O.W) and an a.a gun. This island has many, about fifty trails and one leads to the old lighthouse.  (Connor)

The Beehive  is the popular name for the executive wing of the parliamentary complex, because of the buildings shape.  This is where the prime minister adn the cabinet ministers have offices and where the cabinet meets.      By Joseph.

Wellington Cable Car.  You can find this on Lampton Quay.  There are two, but they only use one track.  They operate by making the track divide into two in the middle.  The cable car is red.  You can find it by looking for the pole with a cable car on it.  At the top you can access the cable car shop and the beautiful Botanic Gardens.   (Antonio)

The Botanical Garden  was made in 1886. The Botanical Garden is a very nice place to walk and relax with the beautiful flowers. It is nice to have a picnic or walk your dog. You  then take a tour with the cable car. By Beatrice and Amelia.

Te Papa is in Wellington.  It is our national museum and you’ll find a lot about legends, history and animals.  You can also see a 3D movie on an octapus.  There is also a nice cafe to eat while watching the birds.  Many of the exhibits are interactive.  Its a great museum.  By Britney.

Statue of Mary.  The statue of Mary is on the top of the hill beside our school.  People coming south down state highway 1 can see her as they come into the Kapiti Coast.  She is 14 metres high and she was made in 1957.  Her halo is made of metal and it lights up the night. Hanging from her arm is a rosary beads with a cross on it.  (Breellen).

Lindale is a great activity centre on the way into Paraparaumu.  It is just off state highway one.  Lindale is a great place to take the family to, because its got a farm adn you can feed animals, there is a huge playground and a bunch of shops.  Lindale would be a great place to visit.  (Daniel M)

Kapiti Island.  This island is just off our coast and it is a bird scantuary.  It takes about 25 minutes by boat to get there.  You need a special permit to go there and they only allow a certain number of people on there each day.  You can see native bush and you can do the climb to the top or walk about.  There are lots of native birds to see.  Its a beautiful place.

Touch Practice Gone Bizarre!

Helicopter 008It started out as a normal day.  We had touch practice with our friends.  But then, an ambulance pulled in beside one of the parents.  We were wondering what was happening.  After about a minute of talking, she yelled out We have to move.  They’re going to land the Westpac Rescue helicopter.  Our coach announced that touch practice was cancelled.  We were very disappointed.

By that time, everyone was wondering what the commotion was all about.  There were different stories going around about what had happened.  In about 5 minutes everybody was off the field and the teachers were coming out to see what the commotion was.  Every once and a while a police car, ambulance or fire Engine came past.  A little bit later, it even started to rain.  After a wait of over 15 minutes, you could hear the sound of the helicopter in the distance.  When it came to land, it was like a huge windstorm.  When it was hovering above the field, you could see the grass blowing away from the chopper.  My sister kept getting small leaves in her eyes it was so windy.  As it was touching down, you could see the navigators door open.  Finally it started to power down.

The paramedic got in a police car and went down to the accident scene.  About 5 minutes later, the injured person arrived in an ambulance and parked next to the helicopter.  About 10 minutes later the relatives put up white sheet.  I saw a yellow stretcher that the patient was in.  The next day I heard from my friend Nathan that when the helicopter was coming in to land, it flew only 4 metres above his house.  I also heard that the patient was a male about 30 years of age and had possibly had a heart attack.  For a short about of time the patient wasn’t breathing and they needed to perform CPR.

We’re on Two Weeks Holiday.

September 134On Friday we had mufti day. I loved Antonio’s tee shirt! I’d love to get one!!

Yes we are closed, which makes our commenting challenge get further behind. However I will be checking in every day and will moderate comments. I will also reply to comments. I hope my students who log  in will do the same.  One of the ways to get their own blog for term 4 is to be an active thoughtful commenter on this and blogs in the challenge.

JONAS

JONAS is the newest TIMG_7040 001V programme on Disney Chanel (40).  I like it because it’s really funny.  It also includes the Jonas brothers –  Nick, Joe and Kevin.  The brothers play themselves on the show, except their surname is Lucas.   I really like the theme song,  Live To Party, because of the tune and lyrics.  From 14 foot guitar cases, to brand new clothing  inventions,  this show has it all.  It just so happens that I decided to use that photo for my computer  background.  The show is on Mondays at 5pm.

One Of My Favourite Books-Secrets Of Deltora

For my birthday this year, my friend Daniel got me the book “Secrets of Deltora”.  It has everything from maps to wonders of Deltora.  It is about Doran the Dragonlovers (aka: Dragonfriend) tour around Deltora.  Along the way he encounters things from dragons to inns.  In this part journal, part travel guide, he tells you about all the things you can encounter in Deltora.  When I first got it, it stood out to me because it had a 3-d cover!  Hope you can see it in the photo.  Another thing not to miss when you read this, is the map ( which lucky for you, I’ve pictured).  It shows every thing from roads to towns, landmarks to territories.  If you magnify the photos, you can make out the writing and the roads.  I definitely would rate it a solid 9 out of 10.  Hope my review helped you.  Antonio

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

On 26/6/09, I went to see the second transformers movie.  I really liked the new transformers in this movie.  Autobots: –  the twins, (aka Mudflap and Skids-pictured), Sideswipe and 2 decepticons that want to be autobots.  One has a  Blackbird plane and is named  Jetfire.  The other is a remote control sized monster truck.  I’m not sure what it is.  (If you know, could you tell me).  Decepticons: - Devastator, Ravage, The Fallen, Mixmaster.  That’s all I can name, but I’m pretty sure there are more.  The movie is 2 and a half hours long, but it didn’t seem that long for me.  I really think that what The fallen does is kinda strange.  I mean trying to destroy earths sun….weird!  But it makes for good entertainment. If you have any thing to ask about the movie, put it in the comments, because if I told you everything about the movie,  then it would take me a month to write!! See you.  Antonio.

Decimals

Every Thursday after lunch, me, my friend Daniel and Miss T work on maths. These last 2 weeks, we’ve been working on decimals.  We’ve been doing worksheets on adding and subtracting decimals.  We have also been timing and dividing them as well.  Here is one we did:  7.4-3.89.  I’m also going to share a strategy with you.  In this one you would add 0.11 to each of them. therefore making it 7.51-4.  the answer is 3.51.  Here is one for Daniel and anyone else who wants to do it.  Leave the Answer in the comments section.  78.9-46.08= ?

The Dragons Of Deltora

The dragons of Deltora are dragons that fly the skies of Deltora.  Nearly hunted to extinction by the 7 Ak-baba, now there is only 1 dragon in each territory of Deltota.  Dragons can have 7 different patterns or colours/patterns on their back.  Their bottom half is the same colour as the sky, so it’ s hard to find them.  Their top can be any colour of the gems of the belt of Deltora - Diamond, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, Topaz, Opal, Ruby or Amethyst.  The Diamond dragon however, is just a baby.  Lief, Barda and Jasmine came across it’s egg, in the skull of its mother, which died on blood lily island,  killed by blood lilys and fleshbanes.  My favourite dragons in order are:  Topaz, Opal, Diamond, Amethyst, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli and the Ruby Dragon.  Photo: The 7 dragons sourounding the Belt of Deltora.  In the picture, I drew the fully grown dragon of the diamond, not the baby.        REPORTER:   Antonio
