Alex Rider Mission 1: Stormbreaker

A visit from the police at three o’clock in the morning is never good news. For fourteen year old Alex Rider it was no where near good news. His only relative left had died in what the police had said described as a car crash. Alex was only left with the housekeeper, Jack his best friend. In the following days Alex meets his uncle’s (Ian Rider’s) work mate and boss. Wanting to know more about the death of Ian Rider, Alex goes to see the car at the breakers yard. There Alex discovers the truth but in doing so gets himself into a job he does not like.

This book Alex Rider Mission 1: Stormbreaker written by Anthony Horowitz is the first book in the Alex Rider series. I recommend this book to people who enjoy adventure, mystery and challenges. I am really enjoying this book and hope you enjoy it too.

Its a Small World Challenge.

Challenge 3

Somes Island is in the middle of Wellington Harbour. It’s a scientific reserve free of predators of  the birds and creatures living on the island. In the first world war it was home of prisoners of war (P.O.W) and an a.a gun. This island has many, about fifty trails and one leads to the old lighthouse.  (Connor)

The Beehive  is the popular name for the executive wing of the parliamentary complex, because of the buildings shape.  This is where the prime minister adn the cabinet ministers have offices and where the cabinet meets.      By Joseph.

Wellington Cable Car.  You can find this on Lampton Quay.  There are two, but they only use one track.  They operate by making the track divide into two in the middle.  The cable car is red.  You can find it by looking for the pole with a cable car on it.  At the top you can access the cable car shop and the beautiful Botanic Gardens.   (Antonio)

The Botanical Garden  was made in 1886. The Botanical Garden is a very nice place to walk and relax with the beautiful flowers. It is nice to have a picnic or walk your dog. You  then take a tour with the cable car. By Beatrice and Amelia.

Te Papa is in Wellington.  It is our national museum and you’ll find a lot about legends, history and animals.  You can also see a 3D movie on an octapus.  There is also a nice cafe to eat while watching the birds.  Many of the exhibits are interactive.  Its a great museum.  By Britney.

Statue of Mary.  The statue of Mary is on the top of the hill beside our school.  People coming south down state highway 1 can see her as they come into the Kapiti Coast.  She is 14 metres high and she was made in 1957.  Her halo is made of metal and it lights up the night. Hanging from her arm is a rosary beads with a cross on it.  (Breellen).

Lindale is a great activity centre on the way into Paraparaumu.  It is just off state highway one.  Lindale is a great place to take the family to, because its got a farm adn you can feed animals, there is a huge playground and a bunch of shops.  Lindale would be a great place to visit.  (Daniel M)

Kapiti Island.  This island is just off our coast and it is a bird scantuary.  It takes about 25 minutes by boat to get there.  You need a special permit to go there and they only allow a certain number of people on there each day.  You can see native bush and you can do the climb to the top or walk about.  There are lots of native birds to see.  Its a beautiful place.

Southwards Car museum has hundreds of cars, all of them olden day! there are quite a few olden day airaplanes too. it is very big. I reckon the Car museum is cool and I don’t like cars  that much, so think how much somebody who does like cars would like it!                     By Monique

My School Holidays

Over the school holidays I had my friend Dayna come for a triple sleepover.  We had lots of fun.  On Tuesday my Nana took us to see UP, which was really funny.  We also went to Peka Peka Beach to pick up some driftwood and shells.

On Friday, Sonia came for a sleepover.  We had a lot of fun playing SingStar and Racing Car on my Play station 2.

On Saturday I went to Siabhaons for a sleepover.  This was really fun, we were still awake at midnight.

On Monday I went to stay at my Nanas with my cousins Sammy and Benny for two nights.  They live in Wellington so I do not get to see them that much.  We had lots of fun playing on our scooters and visiting the horses.  We named them Peril and Midnight.

On Wednesday we went down to the Hutt to stay with my other cousins.  We went swimming at Naenae Pool.  I went down the big Hydro Slide heaps of times chasing Sammy.  My cousins Ben and Darragh chased me down the Hydro Slide.  I also went on an obstacle course setup on the water.  I did not get that far as I lost my grip of the rope.  We went Indoor Rock Climbing on Thursday.

Later we came home with my cousins Jacob and Darragh for a double sleepover.  I played on Jacobs Nintendo DS heaps.  We also played Buzz.

The best things out of my whole school holidays where going Indoor Rock Wall Climbing and catching up with my friend Dayna and my cousins.

Indoor Rockwall Climbing!!!

Indoor Rock Climbing

In the holidays I went indoor rock climbing with my cousins.  We were all really excited.  Most of the walls where two stories high.  Before we started we had to put on a harness and some special shoes.

I went on two different walls.  The second wall I went on I had two attempts at climbing up.  I did not go very high as I kept losing my grip and I did not know where to put my next hand.  I felt scared I was going to slip.  On my way down, I would not let go off the rocks because I thought I was too heavy for my aunty to hold so I had to climb down slowly.

My aunt Jude and aunt Kerry both had a turn at climbing a wall.  They both made it to the top.

After that I went on a bouncy mat with my younger cousins and Niamh.  We played tag and duck duck goose.

Just before we left, my older cousins Sam and Jacob had a race up one of the walls.    We all cheered them on and Sam won by a little bit.

We had lots of fun :-)

Certificates of Excellence for Term 2.

Every term we award two certificates for excellence. Last term it was Beatrice and Antonio.  They have continued their excellence this term so well done to them.  This term’s awards go to Daniel M and Breellen, who both work really well in class and on their homework.  They are what I call self motivated learners.  Congratulations to you both.  I wonder who will join the excellence list for 2009 in Term 3?  There will be no worker of the week for this week.  Daniel and Breellen will share privileges in Week 1 of Term 3 and then Daniel will name the WOW for Week 1 in Term 3 at the end of that week.

My Prayer

Dear Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, help us to tell the truth, help us when times are rough at home or at work.  Holy Spirit, the Spirit of peace, please comfort the sick and help them to get better.  Amen.

Maths Solving with Mrs M

On Wednesday Mrs M came into our classroom to teach some people about adding and subtracting.  She taught us how to add using tidy numbers with rounding & compensating, and she taught us halving and doubling with Place Value and she also taught us to use Reversibilty.

WOW Week 7

So Breellen has been watching out this week and she has made her choice so listen in to find out.
