We were lost but now we are found!

Well I have been feeling quite stressed fearing our blog had been deleted, however here we are back again!! Edublogs had done some updating, and it caused some blogs to have a blank page. However wonderful Sue Waters had the solution, phew!! So I think another coffee is needed and then back to business!!

A New Student Blog on our Blogroll.

I would like to introduce Simone’s Blog  to you all.  She has just started it, and she is already making it really fun to visit.  I especially love her About Me page.  It is very informative and not in the least boring!  Visit her and leave a comment, I am sure that will delight her.

Spelling City

Learn to spell it right at Spelling City!

We have added Spelling City to our blog.  Clicking on it or the link to the left in the blogroll will take you to my teacher page.  There you will find the lists for you to learn.  Each student in the class knows what list they are working on.  It is important you do the Teach Me section, then the Test Me section and then the Game!!!  Not the other way around.  List 10 students, your list will be added in next week I hope.

You can work on these lists at school and at home.  Remember it is just one way of learning your spelling.  Not the only way, pencil and paper works too!!  Of course once known these words should always be correctly spelled in all writing.

Welcome to Term One 2010

Welcome everyone to the new term and year.  I am ready to begin the year,  and I hope you all are as well.  Most importantly do you have shoes, PE gear, hats etc well named.  At least then if you lose them, you have some chance of having them returned to you.

All the Year 5 students from Mrs B’s room, an extra special welcome.  I have added you to this classroom blog, so you should all now be able to log in here.  Test it out to check that it works!

The Holidays are Fast Disappearing!

summer_clipart_holidaySo are people thinking about school yet??  I doubt it!  However I am, I have been into school this week; tidying, organising and chatting with Mr.  Bennett.  He has now cleaned our room and it is ready to go!  So February 2nd is not far away.  Now  I need to plan what we are going to be doing in the first few weeks.  We are going to have a blogging Canadian link this year, and I will have more for you on that when you get back. Meanwhile enjoy this recent heat and run free while you can!

Term 4 coming up! What do you want to learn?

I read Britney’s post, just below mine about her little brother of 6 months learning to crawl, and it got me thinking about what I really want to learn and what makes me excited when I learn it. We do get excited when our younger brothers and sisters learn to crawl and walk and talk and many other things, and I think we should be excited and in awe of what they can do.

My question though is do you get excited too about your learning?  Do you cheer yourself, because I think we should. It is exciting and often we have overcome difficulties to learn it. I think about this blog this year and the time I have spent learning new skills. I’ve learned from people around the world. A boy in Ms Wyatt’s class in Australia, taught me through his post how to add the pet to our blog. I was so excited when I could do it. Well adding a pet doesn’t sound that exciting! For me it was, and because I have been able to use that learning and apply it to adding other widgets.

So what do I want to learn this term? Well I want to learn how to add on student blogs to our class blog so that some of you can start your own blogs. Now through the year I have learned the technical side of that, so it’s no problem, that now is my prior knowledge. Now I want to add on how do I have student blogs that students want to have and it’s a benefit to their learning, as well as fun.
So what do you want to learn?

Often tasks are difficult and we feel like giving up. I know I have a few of you in my class that think they will never get some ideas in Maths. I believe though it’s important to keep on inspite of our limits and difficulties and we never know just where we might get to. I would like share this video clip that somebody in Australia alerted me to. I think it has a message for all of us.

Every Day Something New!

September 001I never know what each day is going to turn up! No day in a classroom is ever the same. One morning last week  before school I lifted my head to be greeted by this strange sight!

Being a little nervous of odd looking rectangular boxes with arms I left it to a couple of the boys to check this mysterious walking box out and find out what it was all about!  September 002

Tidy number birthday.

Sonia painting and meOn the weekend I celebrated a birthday that is a tidy number. I am now part of the very wise people! My niece who is a local artist gave me a gorgeous painting that is going to be perfect in my new sunroom. I love it.

Term 3 Group Work.

This term we have been working cooperatively in teams, especially in Religious Education and Social Studies. I have noticed that almost everyone in the class are good team members and some of the class are making excellent team members. Well done, keep on contributing to your group, bringing your ideas to the task, and getting the job done.

What have the teachers been doing?

Well we have been at the Catholic Education Conference in Wellington.  We have had some very good keynote speakers.  One speaker came to us via video link, he could see us and we could see him, but we were in New Zealand and he was in Ireland.   Amazing.  Of course there has been longer lunch times and a chance to walk to the shops and all the sales.  A bonus.
