One day a week this term I am not in my classroom. Apart from being a teacher, I have other responsibilities, so I have release time, to enable me to manage these other tasks. So take today for instance…
Before school I spent some time writing parent-teacher conference forms, getting ready for next week! In the section from 9am to 11am I worked on our School Spelling programme as we are reviewing it and updating it. I took some brief time to discuss items with Mr E and some time to wave off the Mastermind teams who left to take part in the local NZ Post Book Awards Mastermind competition.
After morning break I met with Mrs A as for the rest of the year I am her support teacher as she gets settled into her teaching career.
I met with Esmay and Kate from MB3 as they are preparing for the Speech Competition section of the Book Awards week, this speech competition will be held on Thursday in our school library, and Kate and Esmay are brave enough to represent our school. These girls are fantastic to give it a go. There has only been time for a week of preparation and I was thinking of suggesting to them that because of time limit we could drop them out. But no, these girls are made of stronger stuff than I, and with a spirit of nothing ventured, nothing gained, they are putting their best effort into it. I also checked in about transport for the creative writing that three students are going to, tomorrow.
In the afternoon I met with Mr E. again as we explored setting up more blogs for classrooms and organised payment for them and giving them full status so that they can have all the photos they want and include students being able to write posts. It took us some time to negotiate the process, but eventually we were successful, and I was ready to go with some after school tutoring. It won’t be long before MB2 and MB6 are fully up and running with their blogs. Keep an eye on our blogroll for their progress. Leave them some comments, I am sure they will appreciate it!
Did I achieve everything on my list today? No, but there’s always next week!
