2013 Cross Country!
Last Friday St Patrick’s School had their cross country, Which if you didn’t know is a running race. Years 2-8 walked down to the domain, year 1 stayed at school. Once we were all down at the park, we got ready for our races, years 2-3 went first, they had to run once around the park (400 m) all of them did very well. Except one little girl fell over, her friend stopped running and came to help her! Next was year 4, my brother is a year 4 so I was supporting him, they had to run around the big circuit, which went on the footpath, some people started out in first place, sprinting the whole thing, and ended up coming around second to last place, my Brother was coming 4th, then they ran behind the huge trees, and when they all ran out, Thomas was coming second! Francis came first!
Next was year 5-6 this was going to be a fabulous race, they all lined up on the start line and got into their start positions, GO! and they all ran off around the big circuit and once around the 400 m track. Some walked, others sprinted, many jogged. A boy name Conner won that race!
Next was year 7-8, NOOOOO! I quickly fetched my water bottle, and slurped a little bit of water. I stretched my legs and arms, and jumped up and down a few times, I was ready, I ran to the side of the start line, because the majority of peoples injuries happen because they were tripped up the the middle! Natasha obviously had the same idea as me and squeezed in next to me, GO! and we were off, Vaughan was in the lead and quickly kissed his Mum on the cheek, everyone else kept running, We had to run around the big circuit twice. My brother and friends were cheering us all on, “Go!” “Come on!” Run faster” they were yelling at everyone! We had done our first round, I ran past the Teachers, They cheered us on too, Vaughan was in the lead (No surprises there) I was in second with a big gap between me and the person the third, I normally always look back to see if someone is going to pass me, but I didn’t this time, I just kept running, Vaughan ran over the finish line, he had won! I came in second! Therese came in third and so on…
Once all my friends ran over the finish line, we all fell onto the ground, breathing heavily, “Congratulations____on____your___run” I could barley say a whole sentence without having to take a huge breath between it, We all caught our breath back and couldn’t stop talking the whole way back to school. The top 12 people from year 5-8 made it into the inter school run! Which is this week on Wednesday. I cant wait!
