What I learnt About Colour Is…

This term I learnt about colour is how to mix colours and we did heaps and heaps of stuff about colour the first thing we did was visit a Monet exhibition in Wellington at Te Papa.  We learned that Monet and his friends never used black they would use a darker colour for shadows and that when he makes cold paintings he would always put a little bit of warm in it.  For example if he was drawing a snowy day he would put a cactus in it or something that makes it look cold.

Clowns in Progress

Video of work in progressclowns-2_0001A second photo of us at Assembly.  And also a video of some of the work that went on to produce them, its sitting just above the photo.  I would also like to thank Mrs F who first gave me this idea. Her class last year did some wonderful work which can be seen in the library.

We painted last week and we painted. We had lots of fun and everyone got very involved. We shared them at Assembly last week.  The video clip shows everyone and their paintings. Well down everyone they will look spectacular when we hang them.

Take warm colours and cool colours and…

Try the clip for more photos.hand-colours_0001Today we took the paintings of cool colours and warm colours and turned them into works of art.  We cut our hands out of the warm coloured sheet, patterned it with pastels and then pasted it onto the cool colour sheet. They look rather wonderful.

Colour is my day-long obsession, joy and torment! Claude Monet.

Yesterday we visited Te Papa.  At 12:30 we had a tour of the Monet exhibition, led by some education officers.  It was very informative, we were shown Monet’s learning journey and art exploration through his works.  I came out far more knowledgeable and with far greater appreciation of his work. Monet was very interested in exploring colour and light.  He would paint the same scene through the different times of day.  He used to get up very early to paint, before you or me. Anyone remember what time?

I also picked out which ones I would like hanging up in my home!  Well we can dream!

We also visited anywhere in the museum groups wanted to see, led by fantastic and patient parents.  Thanks parents, we really appreciate your help.  We couldn’t take cameras into Monet, but there is a video clip of a few students exploring other parts of the museum.  te-papa

Today we worked with cool colours.

Today we got into painting with cool colours.  This time we drew 5 wavy lines and then filled them in, we couldn’t have any of the same colour touching.  Here is a video of some of our work in progress.  With a few other topics thrown in!

Towards the end of the colour session.

movie-2   This is a longer clip of our session today.  About an hour into the process! There is quite a bit of happy chat!  I am hoping the movie clip will work when I publish.  This has been a long evening and a learning curve for me, if I had been at school I would have been nagging Mr Elms to help me. However it’s satisfying to find out for myself!

Let’s see if I can get another small clip to upload of a different group from today. Unfortunately these shorter clips were taken at the beginning when not very much had been completed.   mvi_0343
