Sleeping is an Art.

My cat Pip is so lazy all she does is eat and sleep. When my sister and I get home from school she has to be sleeping. Her bed says “sleeping an art”,  my Mum and Dad bought it for only five dollars,  it was a really good buy. That’s why it is so appropriate because she is great at sleeping. When my Dad comes home from work she will run down the stairs and end up tripping you up just to get food.  After that she will go up the stairs and back to sleep.  If you come to my house she will be sleeping as usual in her bed that says “sleeping is an art”.

The Carnivorous Cheetah

What does this sound like? Racing  zero to ninety kilometres per hour (55 mph) in just three seconds… a racing car perhaps ? No, it’s the top speed a cheetah can reach from a standing start. It is the fastest land animal by far over a short distance. When it’s chasing, its high- speed rarely lasts over 15 seconds [ roughly over 500metres] or else it will give up. And its gratefully breathless prey runs away. Like the leopard the cheetah hunts on its own. The cheetah’s attacker is the lion’s pride. There are 4 sub species in Africa and 1 in Iran. The male cheetah is simply known as the cheetah while the female cheetah is known as  the she- cheetah. This wild cat makes a sound like a hiss and a growl .  So if you’re  holidaying in Africa, watch out for the cheetah because you won’t have time to run!

Carnivore Kiwi

Siabhaon's cat 2This  is  my  cat  named Tui. As you can see  she is sleeping in a kiwi.  She has slept in it ever since my mum bought it home from the lotto shop. Tui loves to sleep in it if you come to my house she’ll probably be in it, asleep.

Lions

Rough, blood thirsty, man eating cats well, that’s the impression.  As you read this you will discover the truth of the amazing life of lions.  Lions are the second biggest cat in the world after the Siberian tiger.  Lionesses do most of the hunting because the males have manes which makes them easier to spot.  The African name for lion is samba and lions can get up to 250 kg in weight.  Lions are mostly found in India or Africa.  A male lion’s roar can be heard 5 miles away, this is because they need to warn off other male lions that might challenge him, if you look hard enough you might see a male lion’s mane, this also is to warn off lions.  Lion cubs are cute little bundles of fun but you wouldn’t like one as a pet , cubs are always ambushing there mothers tails and biting their ears but that is the only way they can learn to hunt.  Mother lions hide their cubs and move them often which is hard when you have about five to move so hyenas can’t find them.  When cubs are two moths old they will be brought to the pride.  At the age of one lionesses will join the hunt,  lions leave their mothers at the age of three.  The lion is a symbol of power and strength,  lions are the only big cats with females that look different from males.  The male lion is much bigger than the female.  A male weighs about 400 pounds a lioness weighs about 275 pounds.  A male lion’s mane protects him in a fight and shows a lioness how healthy he is.  Lions are big which means big appetite, lions will bring down impalas wildebeest,  buffalo and sometimes even elephants.  Lions have a natural hatred for wild-dogs, not just your average hyena but an extremely  rare wild-dog, sometimes they will even track down a pack and make an attack.  So, after reading this do still think of the lion  as  rough, blood thirsty, man eating cats.  I think not

We are learning to make worthwhile comments on blogs.

As a class we have decided that the secret to this is:

*read the post carefully and think.

*Try to write something that will get a conversation going.

*ask an open, interesting question…or…

*give your feelings or state your opinion about the post.

*say what you like or dislike in the post.

*give ideas for improvement that are positive and only if really needed.

*check the sense, spelling and punctuation before submitting the comment.

*keep the size of the comment middle sized. Not too long. Not too short.

*leave your url

*be respectful and tell the truth ( don’t say it’s a great blog when you haven’t really looked at the blog!)

*check back in day or two to see if person who wrote the post or others have replied to your comment.

We will use this to check our commenting and to see what we have succeeded in doing.

Blogging Challenge.

MB4 we are a week behind in the blogging challenge, run by Ms Wyatt.  This time we focus on our commenting.  Tomorrow, Tuesday we will be looking at commenting, what makes a good comment and then working in teams we will leave some comments.  We will also together draft a page for our class blog on how we want comments to operate on our blog.  So what makes a good comment? Is coooool a comment that is worth having? What kind of comments do you like on the posts you write?

This week’s challenges from Ms Wyatt’s challenge.

1.  Write a post or even a page about commenting on your blog. What sort of comments will you accept? Do you have to leave a name with a URL?  Are your comments moderated? Explain what this means. Will you accept critical comments about your spelling and grammar etc?

2.  Visit at least 5 blogs from the participant list and leave appropriate comments.  Keep a record of what you said in a word document or discuss the comments you left  in a post.  Think about what you would like as comments on your blog before you write these. We will be looking at these again at the end of the challenge to see how you have improved with your commenting.

So Tuesday we will cover No 1.  Then for the rest of the week we will work on the commenting. I will show you how to keep a record in a word document, which you will do in some teams that I will organise.

BAD SMELL

Four days ago my August 09 100family and I were cleaning the house, until we smelt this really bad smell. It smelt like there was a fire in the house. We have a light and flies get caught in it so we thought it was a fly.  It got really bad so dad told mum to ring 111, she called them, we asked for the fire trucks and they said to turn off the lights and to evacuate  the house and this was in the night and it was freezing.  So they told us to turn the lights off  because my family and them thought the lights were burning ,so I had to grab some pants and I had to get changed outside and I couldn’t see. Dad brought out a candle, Mum said that’s dangerous and she started laughing. We heard the sirens, they were loud. Two fire trucks came and six firefighters got out of the tucks, it was cool.  My sister Maddie was embarrassed cause she was thinking that the firefighters would think we were scared of a fire, but there was none and there wasn’t even any smoke. Two of my neighbours came down and wondered what happened, we told them they were amazed. We had to wait outside for ten minutes it was so long ,but fun.  The trucks’  lights were making the tree turn red and the trees shadow. So when the trucks’ lights  flickered on and off the tree would, it was really scary. I was getting bored so I started making fingerpuppets on the fence, Iwas making dog shapes.  A few minutes later Dad came out, the firefighters left in their Firetrucks.  Dad said that the firefighters wanted us to call them if it got worse but when we got inside it smelt better, but that’s what we thought.  The smell was up stairs and it went all in my room for some reason and I know now, it’s because I left my door open.  Still we didn’t know where the smell was coming from. We went to the stove to get our dinner and behind it there was a pot and it had a burnt spoon handle and the handle is plastic and the spoon was metal.  So what had happened was that the air conditioning had sucked up the bad smell and blew it out of the other fans which blew all the bad smell all around the house. So then what happened  was Dad washed it and I took it to school.

One Of My Favourite Books-Secrets Of Deltora

For my birthday this year, my friend Daniel got me the book “Secrets of Deltora”.  It has everything from maps to wonders of Deltora.  It is about Doran the Dragonlovers (aka: Dragonfriend) tour around Deltora.  Along the way he encounters things from dragons to inns.  In this part journal, part travel guide, he tells you about all the things you can encounter in Deltora.  When I first got it, it stood out to me because it had a 3-d cover!  Hope you can see it in the photo.  Another thing not to miss when you read this, is the map ( which lucky for you, I’ve pictured).  It shows every thing from roads to towns, landmarks to territories.  If you magnify the photos, you can make out the writing and the roads.  I definitely would rate it a solid 9 out of 10.  Hope my review helped you.  Antonio

Transformers 2 Revenge of the Fallen

On 26/6/09, I went to see the second transformers movie.  I really liked the new transformers in this movie.  Autobots: –  the twins, (aka Mudflap and Skids-pictured), Sideswipe and 2 decepticons that want to be autobots.  One has a  Blackbird plane and is named  Jetfire.  The other is a remote control sized monster truck.  I’m not sure what it is.  (If you know, could you tell me).  Decepticons: - Devastator, Ravage, The Fallen, Mixmaster.  That’s all I can name, but I’m pretty sure there are more.  The movie is 2 and a half hours long, but it didn’t seem that long for me.  I really think that what The fallen does is kinda strange.  I mean trying to destroy earths sun….weird!  But it makes for good entertainment. If you have any thing to ask about the movie, put it in the comments, because if I told you everything about the movie,  then it would take me a month to write!! See you.  Antonio.

The Dragons Of Deltora

The dragons of Deltora are dragons that fly the skies of Deltora.  Nearly hunted to extinction by the 7 Ak-baba, now there is only 1 dragon in each territory of Deltota.  Dragons can have 7 different patterns or colours/patterns on their back.  Their bottom half is the same colour as the sky, so it’ s hard to find them.  Their top can be any colour of the gems of the belt of Deltora - Diamond, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli, Topaz, Opal, Ruby or Amethyst.  The Diamond dragon however, is just a baby.  Lief, Barda and Jasmine came across it’s egg, in the skull of its mother, which died on blood lily island,  killed by blood lilys and fleshbanes.  My favourite dragons in order are:  Topaz, Opal, Diamond, Amethyst, Emerald, Lapis Lazuli and the Ruby Dragon.  Photo: The 7 dragons sourounding the Belt of Deltora.  In the picture, I drew the fully grown dragon of the diamond, not the baby.        REPORTER:   Antonio
